The mission of Rebuilding Together Worcester is to preserve and revitalize houses and communities to help low-income homeowners live in their homes with safety, warmth and independence. RTW can assist with home repairs and maintenance projects qualifying recipients cannot afford or do themselves. All labor and materials are provided free of charge. Donations are accepted and able-bodied family members are asked to work with the volunteers. The program operates during a single weekend in late April. Planning and intake occur year-round. Repair projects are limited to those which can be completed over the course of 1-3 days. Examples are painting (interior and exterior), bathroom fixture repair/replacements, floor covering, masonry, railing and ramp installation, repair/replace lights, carpentry, wallpapering, and walls. Volunteers can include all community members. All are covered by insurance. RTW has operated since 2000 and is a local affiliate of Rebuilding Together, Inc. (www.rebuildingtogether.org). They have assisted homeowners throughout the City of Worcester, in Bell Hill, Piedmont, Greendale and South Worcester neighborhoods. They work on an average of 7 homes each year.
