The VA Medical Center provides inpatient and outpatient medical, psychiatric and substance abuse services. Also offered are a geriatric evaluation unit, respite care program, nursing, home care and outreach programs. Western Mass Shelter for Homeless Veterans includes a vocational component.
Special emphasis programs include a Pulmonary Rehabilitation program and an outpatient/mental health clinic. The Geriatric Evaluation Unit helps the elderly veteran with treatment and discharge plans. Specialized programs in long term care psychiatry and units are devoted to treatment and rehabilitation of veterans with substance abuse problems and post traumatic stress disorder. There are outreach centers in Northampton (582-3079), Pittsfield (499-2672), and Springfield (732-9966) where counseling, therapy, support groups and other services for veterans may be found. Homeless Shelter: Transitional shelter for men and women who are able to work. Residents may stay at shelter for up to two years, depending on assessment.
