Literacy Volunteers of Greater Worcester (LVGW) is a community non-profit established in 1973 which helps adult immigrants, refugees and basic literacy learners to read, write and speak the English language. The Program is supported by over 170 trained volunteer tutors who provide confidential, free, individualized, year-round tutoring in either English as Second Language or Adult Basic Education.

Reading or English for speakers of other languages (ESOL). LVGW has added a Literacy Academy Classroom with 8 certified ESOL teachers who work with students in small classes over a 12 or 6 week course period with Fall, Winter and Summer registration.

With support from area foundations, corporate sponsors and individual donors LVGW offers an average of 36 ESOL courses per year, make over 160 tutor/student matches of Individual One-to-One Tutoring and provide distance learning instruction. Our goal is English language proficiency for economic security.
