The Fall River Council on Aging (COA), established by city ordinance as a Fall River City Department in 1959, has, as its main purpose, the goal of meeting the needs and interests of Fall River’s aging population through the provision of services, programs and activities.

The COA operates four senior centers throughout Fall River, staffed by Senior Center Coordinators and Senior Aides, which provide programs and activites to Fall River seniors:

-Transportation (within city limits to medical and dental appointments) Appointment times are mornings only with times being 8:30 a.m., 9:15 a.m., 10:00 a.m., 10:45 a.m., 11:30 a.m., and 12:15 p.m. The 12:15 p.m. appt is a one-way ride only, as drivers complete their day at 1:00 p.m.

Grocery Shopping Transportation (Pilot Program): Free rides for grocery shopping for Fall River seniors who do not live in apartment complexes services by the Fall River Housing Authority grocery transportation. Up to 8 adults will be transported to 4 local markets (Market Basket, Shaw’s Stop and Shop, and Walmart). South end residents will be shopping on Mondays and North End residents will be shopping on Fridays. Drivers will pick up and drop off shoppers at their homes with pick up beginning at 9:00 a.m. Each shopper is limited to 3 bags per ride and can expect the full trip to take approx. 3.5 hours. Rides will be offered on a first-come, first-serve basis and ride reservations should be made one week in advance.
